Repeat After Me: I Am the Creator of My Freedom
There are moments in life when freedom doesn’t look like some huge breakthrough. Generating freedom is trusting yourself enough to take the first step before you have all the answers. Sometimes it's boarding the plane or just showing up differently.
Implementation is realizing that your soul knew exactly where it was taking you all along. Designing the initiation starts with a small decision that quietly asks: Do you trust yourself enough to say yes?
Years ago, I was offered an experience that felt almost unreal: a seven-day, all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii. The catch? I’d be traveling with a friend I hadn’t seen in years. Normally, that wouldn’t sound like a big deal, but this season of my life was different. At this time I'd recently gone through a hysterectomy and spent nearly eight weeks on medical leave. During that time, I had made a deeply personal choice: I started my loc journey.
Now if you know anything about starter locs, there’s a phase where they definitely have a mind of their own. They were barely getting started, and people around me had opinions. Friends and coworkers (both male & female) who had known me for decades only knew me with polished hairstyles, extensions, and weaves. Suddenly people questioned this new version of me. But I was changing in more ways than just my hair.
How do you operate when you're flowing into a
New world?
New body?
New experiences?
What is it like to realign into a new freedom? I had made a decision that I wanted to trust myself more fully and that meant honoring my instincts, even when other people didn’t understand them. So I said yes to Hawaii and prepared myself mentally. I was ready to step into this next version of me and embrace the adventure.
Weeks before the trip, my travel companion canceled… isn’t life funny? I was told I could still go alone. Not only that, but because of the inconvenience, I was offered extra activities as part of the trip. So suddenly this "disappointment" transformed into horseback riding, butterfly gardens, island tours, and a solo adventure I never saw coming and It ended up being exactly what I needed.
That same week, thousands of miles away from my home in Denver, people were gathering to watch a historic moment unfold: Barack Obama accepting the Democratic Presidential Nomination. I found myself surrounded by people in Hawaii celebrating hope, possibility, change, and collective joy. I remember thinking: "Wow. I thought I came here for a vacation."
Alignment positioned me to remember what freedom actually feels like! It reminds me of something I talked about in my previous reflection on The Broken Glass Wasn't the Problem, the moment of truth when disruption opens doors we never saw coming.
Maybe freedom works the same way. Maybe the thing we thought changed our plans was changing us.

Be Worthy Lifestyle Practice of the Day
Think of a time you said yes to restoration outside your comfort zone & ask yourself:
What unexpected blessings showed up?
Looking back, what bigger purpose may have been unfolding?
Write down one moment where life gave you more than you originally came for. You may realize the best part of the journey wasn't what you planned.
I'd Love to Hear From You
