This past week became a powerful reminder that transformation often begins with something very simple: Paying Attention
Recently, I enrolled in a four-week mindfulness course. Interestingly, it began at the same time as the Fire Horse energy ritual, which made the experience feel even more meaningful. One of the assignments for the week was a walking meditation, a chance to step outside, connect with nature, and truly notice the world around me.
What I didn’t expect was how much the walk would reveal about the way I see myself. During my Fire Horse burning ceremony, I released a belief that had quietly followed me for years:
“I don’t take a good selfie.”
It sounds small, but it carried a deeper habit of criticizing my appearance and searching for flaws. In the ceremony, I consciously released that thinking and replaced it with a new affirmation: “I am enough.”
"In the wake and rebirth of the Firehorse Chinese New Year 60 year revolution, this mystical existence of mine makes sense in the most loving and nonsensical way. Remembering that I am fully in control of my soul's purpose, rather than just learning it, gives me a new power and connection to all things around me. This year is truly my 'birth' day."
While walking in the park, the wind began to pick up. My hair blew across my face, and for a moment I wondered what that would look like in a photograph. Rather than worrying about the picture, I sat down and allowed myself to experience the moment fully.
No judgment.
No criticism.
Just appreciation for the miracle that is my human body
I listened. I noticed. I observed.
Birds moving through the air
Leaves falling from the trees
The sound of footsteps on the path
Runners passing behind me
Bicycles gliding by
Music drifting through the air
The lake water churning in the wind
I felt the warmth of the sun on my face and realized something important: I was able to be there entirely on my own. Just my body carrying me into the world. That moment shifted something for me. I realized that creating a new life doesn’t always require dramatic change.
Sometimes it simply requires appreciating who we already are in this moment.
The body that carries us.
The breath that continues without us asking.
The heartbeat that never stops working on our behalf. There is no button we press to activate these things. They simply happen. That realization is humbling.
TODAY'S PRACTICE
This week I’d like to offer a small challenge to anyone reading. Choose something you already do every day and approach it with mindfulness.
It could be:
Brushing your teeth
Taking a shower
Walking outside
Sitting quietly for ten minutes
Starting your morning before reaching for your phone
TOMORROW'S PRACTICE
Before getting out of bed try this:
Lay quietly and notice your breath.
Feel your feet and allow the awareness to move slowly up through your calves and knees.
Stretch your arms and gently twist your torso.
Place your hands over your heart and notice its rhythm.
Take a deep breath and say: “Thank you. I am ready for the world today.”
Begin your day from that place before outside noise, before social media, before anything artificial alters your energy. Mindfulness reminds us that we are already part of something extraordinary because each of us is a divine miracle in motion.
So today, notice something you usually overlook. Appreciate your body and express gratitude for the breath that carries you through the day. And most importantly:
Be worthy of the life you are creating.
Until Next Time:
"Be Present. Be Aligned. Be Worthy!"
